Altyra is the second child of Kyrian and Illia Dawnracer. Where Saeyira was the troublemaker, Altyra was the rulekeeper. She took after Kyrian, going so far as to follow in his footsteps as Farstrider when she came of age. She took everything her father said to heart, wanting to do right by him. Her father's prejudice against trolls, his seriousness, and his love for order and rules all rubbed off on Altyra. While not so uptight as to be irritating, she tended toward being serious and quiet, observing and speaking only when she felt the time was appropriate. As a child she often disapproved of Saeyira's and Cairienn's misadventures, even when she got dragged into them as well.
When Saeyira fell from grace, Altyra mimicked her father, cutting off all ties with her elder sister (no matter how much it hurt). Even after her father welcomed Saeyira back into the family, Altyra was frosty toward her, blaming her for their move to Silvermoon, as well as their father's lost title and position.
She joined the Farstriders as soon as she was able, intending to restore her family name to greatness. She shunned her sister even more, convincing her higher ups and fellow trainees that she had no love of her sister and would not follow the same dishonorable path that she had. Her ambition and her drive to rise in rank worked, and despite the family history she rose through the ranks quickly. It was during a scouting mission near Zul'Aman that things changed.
Altyra had been sent alone merely to track locations and see what preparations the Amani trolls were making. Someone in the Farstrider ranks had betryaed them, though, feeding information to the Amani for reasons unknown. The traitor divulged Altyra's location, and the Amani ambushed her in the night. She would have died if Saeyira had not learned of the traitor.
Saeyira, seeking her sister to try and make ammends, had slipped into Farstrider headquarters to find information on where she was stationed. She discovered both her sister's location, and the traitor, who made the rookie mistake of detailing his interactions with the trolls in a journal.
The ambush failed because Saeyira arrived with several other Farstriders, who she had alerted to the betrayal. Altyra forgave her sister and the two repaired their relationship, and the Dawnracer name regained a semblance of standing in the Farstrider circles.
After the Scourge invasion and explosion of the Sunwell, Altyra kept fairly close to Silvermoon and her sisters, focusing her efforts on pushing the Amani trolls back. Her hatred of the trolls intensified with their repeated attempts to take advantage of Silvermoon's weakened state. While Saeyira sought to take her fighting to Northrend, Altyra stayed home to wage war.
With the fall of the Amani and the fall of the Lich King, however, Altyra faced a relocation. The Farstriders sent her to the Hinterlands, to work with the Revantusk tribe as a Farstrider ambassador of sorts. Despite the Revantusk trolls being allies of the Horde, Altyra had a hard time overcoming her prejudices to interact with them.
They were trolls.
Eventually she relocated again, but her situation did not much improve. She wound up in Durotar at Sen'jin village, once more acting as an ambassador of the Farstriders. At Sen'jin, she was sent to handle a growing harpy problem. The harpies in Drygulch Ravine had been acting more territorial and hostile than usual, attacking travelers in large groups even when the travelers took caution to avoid them.
She went alone with the promise reinforcements would be sent as soon as possible. The reinforcements came in the form of a troll druid, Kutazi, and a troll shaman, Ja'kooli. They arrived almost too late. The harpies discovered Altyra and descended upon her, intent to kill. She lost consciousness from her wounds a moment before Kutazi arrived, driving the harpies back and rescuing Altyra, taking her to the safety of a nearby cave.
When the two returned to Sen'jin village, Altyra was charged with helping Kutazi reach Moonglade to continue his training. Her wilderness skills, claimed Kutazi's trainer, would insure the troll reached his destination safely.
Forced proximity has begun to change Altyra's view of trolls, however, and she has developed a close relationship with Kutazi in their travels. Altyra was not aware that she and her sisters had been barred from Silvermoon until she reached Moonglade. It was there she also learned that she had been discharged from the Farstriders.
Saeyira secured a place for her in the Mistreavers, and Altyra has since joined the Tribe.
